We are not shaken by Robert Kyagulanyi’s presidential bid – says Rogers Mulindwa NRM party spokesperson
After People Power Pressure Group unveiled its National Coordination team, in a press conference held in Magere at Robert Kyagulanyi’s residence, the NRM party Spokesperson, Rogers Mulindwa says they are not shaken.
“We are not shaken by Kyagulanyi’s presidential bid, because People Power does not command voters. It’s NRM with the biggest number of voter in the country,” Mulindwa said.
Mulindwa also said that NRM has started a search for new members to replace those who have left NRM, and they will make sure that every elective position in this country bears NRM member, come 2021 general elections.
“One thing I want to assure the nation is that the search to replace them starts (NRM members who have crossed to People Power) because 2021 is not very far if somebody has chosen to walk away from good news. Some equally other good people are there waiting to replace them, we shall not leave any elective position without a candidate of NRM. We shall make sure we have a candidate in every elective position in this country from L.C 1 to president,” Mulindwa said in a television interview.
Mulindwa said People Power derived this plan of appointing National Coordinators from NRM’s recent initiative where the party elected countrywide coordinators to oversee NRM activities.
“I have already hard people distancing themselves from the coordination, Karamoja has already seen saying it’s not part of that, I have also hard people in Luweero saying they don’t know somebody, there’s a name appearing there and it can’t be traced anywhere in the circles of Luweero District and greater Luweero. So, I think that because recently the National Resistance Movement (NRM) started coordinators, these coordinators countrywide perhaps the People Power also thought that it’s high time we do it, but maybe they have done it hurriedly,” Mulindwa added.
Mulindwa further said that NRM members who have crossed to People Power are free to return if at all things fail to work out for them.
“But for our members that have crossed over somewhere, I would only say if the marriage doesn’t work out well for them that side, the party keeps the entry door and the exit door open, we shall only ask them to repent their sins and then walk back to NRM there’s no problem.”
People Power Movement unveiled a team of 140 members to mobilise activities across Uganda ahead of 2021 presidential elections.
People Power said the press conference was held in Magere at Bobi Wine’s House because several Hotels refrained from hosting them.
Among them includes; Hotel Africana, Pope Paul Memorial Hotel and Sheraton Kampala Hotel, they wanted permission and clearance from police just for the mere press conference.
