Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre has pinpointed at his side’s lack of experience that resulted in the narrow loss to Senegal.
Sadio Mane latched on to a perfect pass and fired an excellent low shot inside the right post in the 15th minute to grant his side a 1-0 win against the East African based side a result which confirmed their exit from the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
However, coach Desabre is positive and proud of his player’s performance although he was disappointed with the final result of the game
Speaking at a post-match press conference, the Cranes French tactician stated that his side was very poor tactically in the first 15 minutes of the game which affected them.
“We played four games and created a lot of chances. I am proud and positive of my players. Maybe we lacked experience in the last game against Senegal but we played well. I am proud with what my team has achieved,” coach Desabre said.
“I regret we didn’t play well during the first fifteen minutes. I am also disappointed in the result because our objective was to win every game,” the Frenchman added.
This was Uganda’s first time to participate in the knock out stage of any AFCON tournament in 41 years after qualifying as second best in Group A with five points below hosts Egypt who finished with nine.
Meanwhile, this now means that Uganda has bowed out of this year’s AFCON campaign as the last team from East Africa.
They have joined their neighbours Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi who failed to make it past the group stages.
