Makerere University Students Visit Embattled Mityana MP Zaake.
A few weeks ago history was made in Uganda when honorable Member of Parliament most especially opposition leaders fought in parliament over the age limit bill that was tabled by Hon Rafael Magyezi in a bid to remove age limits for one to contest for President claiming that the current president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni wants to rule for life. Property of the parliament were destroyed including microphones, desks and others well as many of them beaten to comma by security operatives which left many like Bobi wine, Allan Ssewanyana arrested and others bedridden among these include Hon Betty Nambooze of Mukono, Zaake Francis Butebi former Ndejje University Guild president Mengo Campus currently Mityana Municipality Member of parliament.
Many people including the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga, former UPDF top Commander gen Katumba Wamala (who Zaake claims that he is the one who punched him on the head which almost claimed his life).
And this week, defiant and team of the “Kogikwatako” movement from Makerere University visited the embattled Zaake, donated a red gown to him at his home in Nalumunye, Mutundwe with their arms and heads strapped red ribbons as a symbol to resist Magyezi’s bill. Among these was a one Musiime martin, a third year student of Bachelors of law who was during the presidents to makerere during Nelson Mandela’s commemoration day showed the president a placard of “Togikwatako” 102b which landed him to jail, later a campaign Free Musiime was launched on social media and this forced the police to release him.
But why did these students visit a defiant Zaake, they claim they wanted to pray for a fellow fighter for a quick recovery, show their support to resist the bill even more among other things.
Makerere university students are known for having engaged in country wide demonstrations against the removal of age limit, and have moved on to decorate University walls and roads with anti age limit words.
We will keep you posted.
